Hickory Services

Wellness and Prevention Services’ mission is to serve all students through the promotion of healthy behaviors, risk behavior modification services, and advocacy for campus-wide health policies which facilitate student success and holistic well-being. We offer services promoting health awareness and active lifestyles while taking a holistic approach to wellness.

Often, our services are confused with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and Student Health Services (SHS). While we work closely with CAPS and SHS, we focus on health promotion, harm reduction, and prevention. We do provide some specialty counseling, including for substance misuse and nutrition, but most of our services are intended to help students build knowledge and skills so they don’t experience negative outcomes such as illnesses or injuries.

Wellness and Prevention Services is available Monday through Friday to engage with students virtually regarding well-being needs such as substance misuse, nutrition, mental well-being, peer education, sexual and relationship health, and recovery support.

Students may also choose to connect with upcoming programs and events posted to Engage

Supportive drop-in spaces are facilitated by a licensed counselor on Tuesdays from 11am-12pm, Wednesdays from 12-1pm, and Thursdays from 1-2pm via Zoom.

Connect with on-site Student Affairs staff in offices adjacent to the Student Commons, call Wellness and Prevention Services at 828-262-3148, or email us at to request a meeting with one of our staff.
