              Wellness Peer Educators

               

              What is a Wellness Peer

              Educator?

                Peer Educators are a group of students who develop and implement campus-wide health promotion campaigns and programs designed to encourage healthy lifestyles among college students. Being part of the Student Wellness Center, they are dedicated to the campus community by  providing numerous opportunities to  expand health knowledge.

               

               Peer educators are trained to provide a wide range of services and presentations in  residence halls, classrooms, and other academic settings. 

              The Peer Educators offer expertise in the following areas: 

              · Healthy Eating

              · Sexual Health

              · Stress and Sleep Management

              · Smoking/Dipping Information

              · Alcohol & Other Drugs

              · General Health & Wellness

               

              Benefits?

              * Club status (in progress)

              * National Certification: Certified Peer Educator (CPE) FREE!!

              * Leadership skills to add to your resume

              * Network (Personal & Professional)

              * Training on presentation skills, various health topics & communication.

              * Possible National Conferences

              * Possible paid position

              * Fun and able to be creative!

               

              How to become a Wellness Peer Educator?

               

              1. Contact the Student Wellness Center for an application. (Applications are no longer being taken now. We will take more starting in March 2010, so if you are interested for next semester, please let me know)

              2. An interview with the advisor will follow the application process.

              3. A letter of acceptance or not will be sent.

              4. If you are accepted, a contract will be signed reiterating the responsibilities.

              5. You will go through the Certified Peer Educator certification process.

              6. Ready to rock and roll!!!

              · Condom Line-Up

              · STD Matching

               

              Responsibilities?

              · Organize & implement educational programs and activities designed to provide accurate information on various wellness issues.

               

              · Market programs and services in our office.

               

              · Attend weekly meetings & become nationally certified as a peer educator.

               

              · Assist students utilizing the resources available in the Student Wellness Center.

               

              · Take initiative in educating self on various health-related issues.

               

              · Practice what you preach!

               

              · Have fun and inform the advisor if I am not enjoying myself!
