Campus Outreach Programs
Wellness is an on-going process achieved through the balance and moderation of a variety of components that make up our lives. To help people achieve a higher level of wellness, ASU has many outreach groups, representing many departments at Appalachian State University

Our mission as the Student Wellness Center is to assist the ASU community in striving for a higher overall level of wellness. The programs emphasizes that obtaining a high level of wellness is a continual process, incorporating six components: Social, physical, intellectual, occupational, spiritual, and emotional. Specifically, the outreach programs are designed to: Educate, motivate, increase awareness, initiate behavior change, and provide resources and support for maintaining healthy lifestyles.

Stop Smoking or Dipping Group!! This group is a 6 week program, one hour a week. To find out more, click the link connected to the "Stop Smoking or Dipping Group" title and/or contact Jessica Gillaspy to get signed up or if you have any questions!

Alcohol and Other Drug Services = provides various educational opportunities on campus and in classrooms for students to assess and evaluate personal risk factors and relationships to alcohol and substance use. We strive to make talking to a professional at our center a positive, helpful learning experience. The Student Wellness Center is a welcoming, non-judgmental environment where students can find caring, confidential help and support. Anyone can make an appointment for any reason concerning issues related to substance use, whether it be a self referral or concerning a friend or family member. Counseling Center Programs
- Mindfulness Group = Mindfulness can help us decrease stress and deal more effectively with our emotions. This group will focus on building present moment awareness of emotional and physiological experiences. The group will also address developing skills that entail stepping out of “auto-pilot” reactions. Group activities will include practice of meditation, breathing strategies, and mindfulness in day-to-day life activities.
- Group Counseling = The counseling Center offers a variety of therapy groups each semester. Some of them are Men's or Women's Therapy Groups, Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual Therapy Group, Transgender Therapy Group, Body Image Group, and many more. Click HERE to check out more!
