Music therapy is the use of music to improve or maintain an individual’s desired quality of life. For students wishing to modify their use of recreational drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, or other substances, music therapy provides a non-threatening environment where  individuals can gain self-awareness and develop coping skills through experiences such as song writing, lyric analysis, and music improvisation. Experiences used will focus on building self esteem, coping skills, and relapse prevention. Persons interested in gaining additional support through individual or group music therapy sessions should contact Jess Cloud, MT-BC at cloudjj@appstate.edu  to schedule an appointment for a consultation.
